10 Things to Do in the Rain

By Faith Mellinger, Editor/Co-Publisher February 4, 2016

They say 2016 is bringing us El Nino and I have 3 boys, a dog and an 1100 square foot house so it's going to be a LONG winter! Here are 10 activities I plan to keep on hand for those days...we all know "those" days!

  1. Build a fort - this is always a great go-to as it can be made with anything in the living room and a few bed sheets
  2. Games: Monopoly, sorry, cards, matching game, wii - pull out all you have and make it a marathon game day
  3. Crafts: Make a rocketship out of toilet paper rolls, grab some canvas from Michaels and host your own "paint nite" let them create...just be prepared for the mess you have to clean up after.
  4. Make Your own drive in- it's raining so hopefully you've been online shopping.  Grab a few of those Amazon boxes and make some cars and put a flick on the living room big screen. Need some Pin-speration?...here you go
  5. Go on an indoor scavenger hunt - if you plan it right it may even be a way for them to pick up their toys...(never worked for me but you gotta hope)
  6. Bake - it's always a great time to make something fun and the smell of warm bake goods is great on a cloudy day!
  7. Let them warm up in the bubble bath! If you are feeling like an over-achiever you can even step up bath time a notch with this bathtub turned race car
  8. Clean up their play area - I've noticed whenever I pull out the "tucked away toys" they suddenly become re-engaged so rotate the toys and see what happens.
  9. Write thank you notes - this is a perfect time to have the kids color a picture or make a note of thanks for their beloved Christmas presents.
  10. Host your own family story time: Let the kids take turns reading to siblings and friends
We know you have some great ideas - feel free to add to our list in the comments below.
