What if We Didn't Have Leap Year

Snow In The Summer and More...

By Faith Mellinger February 23, 2012

A year is 365 days, except in a leap year when we get 366. The extra day is added to February because it's the shortest month.

So, Why Do We Have Leap Years?
It takes the Earth about 365 1/4 days to make an orbit around the sun (one rotation around the Earth's axis is a day). An extra day is added every four years so that the Earth is in the same point of obit at the same time on the calendar each year (summer days are about the same time, Christmas in winter, etc.)

What Years are Leap Years?
Usually, there is a leap year every four years ...here are the upcoming leap years: 2016, 2020, 2024, 2028, 2032, 2036, 2040, 2044, 2048, 2052, 2056, 2060
