Publisher's Note: 10 Ways to Enjoy Winter Break

By Faith Mellinger, Editor/Co-Publisher December 18, 2014
I have a love/hate relationship with school breaks. I love not having the "morning battle" to get out the door on time. I hate the brotherly battles that happen when three kids are home in our small house each day. I needed some ideas to get them out of the house and into some fresh air - and also to keep my sanity. Here are my top ten ideas of activities to enjoy over winter break:

  1. Take the North Pole Express (it's a little over an hour drive so make sure there are still tickets and that you have yours before you venture out)
  2. See the snow in Pasadena. That's right Kidspace, one of our favorite children's museum's is bringing in the white powder December 26-30
  3. Dance and sing along to some Frozen theme songs at Chirp Kids Karaoke. Call or check their website for open play hours.
  4. Create your own scavenger hunt. We have a few ideas on our Pinterest Page.
  5. Explore the new cube in town. The Discovery Cube LA is now open and the exhibits are rockin!
  6. Check out the Smokey Bear & Woodsy Owl Exhibit at the Southern California Children's Museum before it's gone.
  7. Take a drive around the neighborhood and check out the neighbors electricity bills...ahem I mean amazing light displays!
  8. Shop Small - Check out our local shopping guide partners.
  9. Go Caroling! You can even venture to LA Christmas Eve and Follow the Magical Christmas Caroling Truck Tradition
  10. Take the whole family to Disney On Ice
Bonus: Sit back and enjoy the fact you fon't have to deal with that damn elf for another year! Speaking of the elf. We want to reward those who are putting so much effort into their duties. We are giving away a $50 gift certificate to Paint N Play - there are a few things you have to do to win, but big bonus points for those who post pictures of their elf shenanigans.

Our calendar is full of even more fun - be sure to tell us if yuo see something we missed (or if you know and event was cancelled -sadly it happens sometimes). If you know of an upcoming fun event that should not be missed, please email the amazing Joyce Sakonju at joyces@macaronikid.com so she can post it on our calendar.

Enjoy!
