My Child's Ride with HopSkipDrive

By Faith Mellinger June 4, 2015
Sometimes you can't be where your kids are. Maybe Susie has soccer practice a half hour after Matthew's Lego class starts. Maybe gymnastics class starts just a half hour before you get off work. Perhaps Jimmy's school gets out at the same time as Sarah has to nap every day. There are a number of reasons your kids might need to hop in the car at an inconvenient time for you.

With three kids we lead a busy schedule. My oldest son is 8 and as he's getting bigger he sometimes ventures off without his younger brothers. As we all get busier I realize more and more I really can't clone myself to get to everything. Even though we limit them to one activity at a time with three kids that can still be a challenge. So I put HopSkipDrive to the test to see how it would work.

On Monday HopSkipDrive driver Marji navigated the school car line for me and did school pick up. My son was given a password, her photo and a picture of the car to find his ride. I notified his teacher of our plan so she was aware of his ride home. I downloaded the app on my phone and was notified when Marji was on her way to the school. (Secretly I watched from the parking lot to see how it went).

Marji pulled into the car line (she followed my instructions of coming into the school from the back side and using the north side of the street to turn in perfectly). The HopSkipDrive flags helped my teacher and son find the car and driver. She came with a booster seat just as I had requested. Once Taylor found the car I hopped in for the ride home (it was his first ride and I wanted to see how it went). Parents are always welcome to join for a ride and test out the service.

Marji drove us home safely and walked Taylor to the door to make sure he got safely inside with an adult. Safety is a number one priority. HopSkipDrive requires their drivers to complete a 15-point certification process before they get in the car with your kids. For me as a parent this was my number 1 priority as well. Marji had my most precious cargo and she made sure to deliver.
