November has crept up on us, and we can hardly believe we're on the brink of 2024! Time passes fast when you're navigating the beautiful chaos of family life.

This month is not only a time for giving thanks and turning back the clocks, but also an opportunity to engage in meaningful events and holidays. Here are 10 heartwarming holidays and events to embrace or recognize this November:

1. Native American Heritage Month

This month provides an excellent opportunity to delve into the rich history and culture of the Gabrieleno / Tongva nation. It's a chance to connect with the roots of your community. Check out Mini-Pottery Making at the San Gabriel Library, or the drums and dance of the Danza Mexikah Cultural Presentation at the Hastings Branch Library.

2. National Adoption Month

Did you know that over 117,000 children and youth were awaiting adoption from the foster care system in 2020? If you've ever considered adoption, take some time this November to explore the possibility more in-depth for your family. Serenity Inc, a local Foster Family Agency, has a variety of volunteeer opportunities from wish lists, to individual advocacy to fostering.

3. Día de los Muertos: Nov. 1 & 2

This vibrant Mexican holiday celebrates the lives of loved ones who have passed away. Dive into the colorful and meaningful traditions of Día de los Muertos on November 1st and 2nd. 4. The End of Daylight Saving Time: Nov. 5

5. Election Day: Nov. 7

We all understand the immense importance of voting, and it's equally vital to instill this value in the next generation. 6. Veterans Day: Nov. 11

Take a moment on November 11th to honor the veterans in your life. Encourage your children to express their gratitude by writing heartfelt letters, creating thoughtful drawings, or even interviewing veterans about their experiences. If you're looking to connect with veterans, Operation Gratitude provides a platform to send letters and show your appreciation.

7. National Recycling Day: Nov. 15

While recycling rates have improved over the years, there's always room for more progress. On November 15th, gather your family and discuss how you can further contribute to recycling efforts at home. It's a chance to raise eco-conscious kids and create a greener future. 8. Transgender Day of Remembrance: Nov. 20

November 20th is a day to remember and honor those who have lost their lives due to transphobia. It's also an opportunity to educate your children about the importance of being allies to transgender and nonbinary youth. The Trevor Project offers valuable resources to start this crucial conversation

It's the mother of all American November holidays! Thanksgiving is a time for gratitude, feasting, and cherishing moments with your family. Reflect on your blessings and create lasting memories around the dinner table.
