Giftable Craft: Yarn Wrapped Pencil Can | |

Instructions: 1. Completely clean a used aluminum can (you can even throw it in the dishwasher after rinsing it out if you’re planning ahead. 2. Select your first color of yarn and tape the end of one yarn to the side of the can, near the bottom. | |

3. Coat the can in glue, using a paint brush to spread it evenly. 4. Wrap the yarn neatly and tightly around the can to fill the bottom section to the height desired. Be sure to cover the tape as you wrap. 5. Cut the yarn, tape down the end of it to the can, and then tape the end of the next color of yarn right atop the end of the first. Continue wrapping, concealing the taped ends, and switching colors as you go. 6. When you get to the last end of yarn, thread it through the eye of your large sewing needle. Pass the point of the needle down underneath several layers of yarn and pull it out a ½ inch or more away from where it entered. Pull the needle through, then pull through the loose end of the yarn loop. Snip the loose yarn tail close to where it comes out, so you won’t even see it. | |

7. Decorate the can with glue-on elements, such as plastic jewels, buttons, or pom-poms. Here, I’ve tied on several large pom-poms, hiding the loose ends of yarn under the wrapped yarn as described above. |
