Instructions: 2. Remove any leaves, stems, and small offshoots to leave an elegant shape. Take your time with this step, creating a pleasing tree shape. If using more than one branch, zip tie them together in several locations along the trunk. 3. Saw off the bottom of the trunk, straight across, about 4 to 6 inches below the bottom of where you want the base to be. 4. Insert the trunk into the bottom hole of the upside-down terra cotta pot. I used a 6-inch azalea pot, which is shorter and wider than a standard pot. Using hot glue, secure both the underside and the top of the (upside-down) plant pot to the trunk. It should be able to stand up solidly on its own. 5. For a white tree, spray the entire tree with white and / or iridescent spray paint and allow to dry thoroughly. For a natural colored / green tree, leave plain. 6. Wrap the entire trunk in green floral tape or white ribbon. If you are using only one branch, you may opt to skip this step. 7. Place the tree base inside of the basket and cover with faux grass. 8. Cut free-hand leaf shapes from the felt, pinch and hot glue the bases of the leaves closed around the end of the pipe cleaners. Glue 1 or 2 additional leaves randomly along the length of the pipe cleaners, then wrap around the lower branches to create new offshoots. These additional branches will appear as the young shoots that grow in springtime. Glue on tiny faux flowers, if using. 9. Decorate liberally with egg ornaments and place the entire tree in your foyer or prominent spot in your home. Surround the tree with other spring decorations. | |||
