The Doc is in and she’s fantastic. We were lucky enough to get a sneak preview of the new Disney Junior television series Doc McStuffins and now we can’t wait for the series to start on March 23. The main characters are an African-American family with mom at work and dad at home, reflecting the diversity of society and encouraging reversed gender roles. Six-year-old Doc is the best toy doctor around healing her toys from all kinds of ailments including “No-Vroom-Vroom atosis” and Filthy-Icky-Sticky Disease.” Her treatments typically involve replacing batteries or re-stitching a seam, encouraging independence and a can-do attitude in the preschoolers who watch her show. Doc's kid-friendly health tips are also good reminders about basic personal hygiene.
This animated series sends messages to kids about imaginative play, caring for others, and problem solving. My two-year-old and four-year-old can’t get enough of Doc McStuffins.
In conjunction with the premiere on March 23, DisneyJunior.com will debut a "Doc McStuffins" supersite featuring an interactive clinic where kids can assist Doc in nurturing toys back to health, three new online games and "Doc McStuffins"-themed crafts. A "Doc McStuffins" character gallery and clips are currently available atwww.DisneyJunior.com/Doc. Disney Junior is a sponsor of Macaroni Kid.
