Publisher's Message: Enjoying the Outdoors

By Faith Mellinger, Editor/Co-Publisher July 17, 2014
While there are a lot of great indoor activities, and ways to beat the heat this summer, when the weather is tolerable you should get your kids outside. Summertime is a great opportunity to explore, take a hike, go on a picnic and just have fun!

I remember many summers running up and down the street between friends houses, reading books in our playhouse and having friends over to swim. What stories will your kids have from their summer? Let's make some memories!

I am not about to bust out pictures of myself with crimped hair and braces on Facebook for what is now known as "Throw back Thursday" so instead I'll share some of my favorite memory makers from when I was a kid. Kidspace was a favorite place of ours as a kid, as well as Mother's Beach. I also have fond recollections of my mom taking us to the Hollywood Bowl for the kids summer series. It was where I learned to play the spoons - yep the spoons you eat ice cream with can have another purpose. The Summer Sounds World Music for Kids Series is in it's second week. Each one features a music performance and art workshop (you can choose music before art or art before music and cost is $15 per workshop for attendees 2 and up).

If you are looking to make some memories we have a calendar full of activities for every summer budget. The Circus is in town, there are FREE movies under the stars, Planes Fire and Rescue comes out this weekend and every week we have lots of FREE Concerts. Yes I said FREE Concerts - a summer favorite of mine and many of our Macaroni Kid folllowers.

Enjoy!
